The Systems Engineer II is responsible for the support and delivery of the Backup environment with secondary responsibilities for the Storage environment. The Systems Engineer II will assist in the implementation and support of data recovery initiatives, processes, and procedures. The Systems Engineer II will assist in documenting and generating frequent reports to management and other IT users along with monitoring support tickets and assisting during audits by providing specific documentation and reports as required. The Systems Engineer II will participate in all backup technology upgrades and related functions as required, as well as assisting in supporting certain Data Center initiatives.


  • Recover lost data by helping to administer support to all aspects of the Backup environment and following processes and procedures in support of the Backup environment.
  • Support for Disaster Recovery environment by assisting appropriate IT teams as requested.
  • Administer tools that generate daily, weekly, monthly backup reports, and provide that backup reporting to management, IT personal and subsidiaries as required.
  • Provide support for annual audits by generating and providing reports to auditors and updating tickets that prove that failures have been investigated.
  • Performs regular restore testing (with or without assistance) working with various IT teams and documenting results.
  • Participate in all backup technology upgrades and implementations that are intended to support and enhance recovery efforts and providing support to all backup related initiatives.
  • Provide on call and onsite support for Backup and Storage environments.
  • Resolve backup failures on a regular basis and document accordingly.


  • Provide onsite support at the Phoenix and Atlanta area datacenters, when required.
  • Trains others on the backup functions and technologies as requested.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience in a related field required
  • 3+ years’ experience in a backup and storage role for an IT organization required, preferably in a large enterprise setting
  • 2+ years’ exposure to Dell/EMC Avamar and Data Domain required.
  • 2+ years’ exposure to Veritas NetBackup required.
  • Backup experience with cloud workloads, including AWS and/or Azure preferred
  • Exposure to a majority of the following preferred:
    • Dell/EMC DPA
    • Dell/EMC Isilon, CIFS/NFS and security/permissions
    • IBM BRMS
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently, with minimal supervision and as part of a team
  • Detail oriented with excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to think outside the box
  • Resourceful, excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Understand current security threats and be able to work with others to proactively protect environment
  • Understanding of networking concepts and technologies including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, etc. required
  • Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills required.
  • Ability to influence, communicate effectively and interact with diverse personalities required.
  • Must have strong organizational skills and multi-tasking skills in order to meet required deadlines in a fast paced work environment
  • Knowledge and experience with a variety of scripting languages such as Powershell, batch files, etc. a plus
  • Knowledge of Dell/EMC VMAX/PowerMAX, Dell/EMC RecoverPoint, and Brocade SAN Switching a plus
