RedLeaf is an expanding startup company utilizing a proprietary variety of sorghum to create natural sources of functional ingredients and colorants. RedLeaf has been recognized “Best University Start Up” by NCET2 and as a potential leader in building Kentucky’s agricultural technology ecosystem. By creating innovative natural products, RedLeaf is helping to drive new economic opportunities for Kentucky farmers and break through products for food & beverage, cosmetics and more.

The Company is looking for a part-time Production Assistant to help with production and processing of our proprietary botanical extract, in addition to supporting related lab work, quality testing and analytics. In this role you will be intimately involved in the production of our breakthrough natural products, while also learning the science and analytics underlying this revolutionary product.

Ideal candidates will be organized and self-driven, requiring minimal oversight to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. Ongoing and effective communication with RedLeaf management and team members is also essential to ensure the Company stays focused on performing value adding work. Overall, RedLeaf is looking for an ambitious candidate interested in working in a science driven startup environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with laboratory and pilot scale extractions of botanicals from RedLeaf’s proprietary sorghum.
  • Assist with approved product stability and quality studies (e.g. pH, color, antioxidant, etc…)
  • Collect, summarize, and document relevant data, quality specs, batch data, etc.
  • Perform general laboratory maintenance.
  • Supporting documentation, communication, and administrative tasks
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Basic knowledge related to safe handling of acids and bases.
  • Experience working or completing coursework in a laboratory setting preferred but not required.
  • Majoring in a field in Bachelor of Science (BS) preferred but
    not required.
  • Ability to move materials and biomass of up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to commit to 10-20 hours per week, in minimum time increments.
  • Ability to commit to regularly scheduled windows of work at least one week in advance.
