JOB SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Accounting Manager, the Staff Accountant is responsible for accounts payable coding and entry, electronic filing of processed vouchers, processing employee expense reports, month-end closing journals and reporting, account reconciliations, and ad hoc project support. The successful candidate must be able to multi-task, work in a rapidly growing environment and be able to develop and document processes and procedures.  This individual needs to be a self-starter, have an eagerness to learn, and the ability to adapt to new systems.  This position will be fast paced, and offers room for growth and development.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Professional Accounting Standards – Knowledge of how an organization conducts operations and fulfils its statutory and regulatory obligations according to professional accounting standards including accruals, obligations and cost methods.

  • Apply foundational knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) related to accounts payable, general ledger and internal controls         

Transactional Accounting Processes - Knowledge of the principles, concepts and methods within general ledger and subsidiary account relationships; the process of  recording, adjusting and reconciling financial transactions and events according to professional accounting standards.   

  • Accurately code and enter Accounts Payable invoices in GL system after three-way matching and input into ServiceNow system
  • Ensure that all Accounts Payable vouchers are filed electronically
  • Distribute invoices to various subsidiaries and divisions responsible for payment in a timely manner so they can meet the payment deadlines
  • Communicate with appropriate person at other subsidiaries and divisions of any intercompany transactions during the month to ensure elimination at consolidation
  • Perform all other activities within the payable process
  • Assist with month-end close activities
  • Complete timely and accurately, accounting activities supporting submission of financial reports

Perform detailed review, analysis, and reconciliation of balance sheet accounts including sub-ledger to general

  • ledger reconciliation and evaluation of accounts for legitimacy and balance substantiations
  • Facilitate employee reimbursements to Reliance by collecting and depositing funds in a timely manner
  • Conduct initial review, ensures timely submission, accurate coding and proper support for all employees expense reports to ensure compliance with travel and expense policy
  • Prepare and record employee expense journal entries
  • Assist with monthly expense accrual
  • Update CIP and fixed assets sub-ledger

Accounting & Finance Controls - Continuously reviews and improves accounting controls, processes and procedures.

  • Identify and escalate potential compliance issues
  • Adhere to and enforce RTS internal controls
  • Document procedures and processes for areas of responsibility

Financial Analysis - Knowledge of the principles, concepts and methods used in the process of analyzing the financial statements and data to provide insights about the financial performance and position of the organization over time.

Assist in preparation of financial analysis

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance or related field
  • 2+ years of relevant experience (AP, GL, Fixed Assets) required
  • IT accounting experience preferred
  • Experience using Microsoft D365 a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs (Excel, Word and Outlook)
  • Experience with Concur, Service-Now and Sage Fixed Assets (formerly FAS) a plus
  • Strong analytical skills, highly organized, multi-tasking capabilities, and commitment to detail
