Position Description:
POSITION PURPOSE

The Senior Manager of Assortment Planning will lead a team of category managers & analysts responsible for providing analytical services, thought leadership and strategic insights needed to drive a continuous and best in class approach to category management for the merchandising enterprise.  This individual will be responsible for partnering with various internal cross-functional teams (pricing, inventory, space, supplychain, etc) to develop category management capabilities and processes that drive sales/margin benefit and assortment productivity.  This person will also serve as a liaison with internal IT and development resources to champion development of tools that scale category management analytics and move the organization forward with adoption of cutting edge data science methods.  In addition, the role requires assuming a leadership role on key internal product category initiatives & reviews that deploy best in class analytical practices that optimize the 4 Ps and drive next level thinking across the team.  This individual will also need to partner, provide thought leadership, and grow influence within the Merchandising Organization and other key stakeholders.
MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
70% Partner with Merchants to set strategic priorities, goals and timelines for each review. Provide process management for monitoring progress and proactively identifying and communicating issues. Review project milestones, conduct post-mortem analysis and integrate new sources of data that support category objectives. Lead team in structuring category reviews, assessing requirements and design analysis that influences category strategy. Provide thought leadership to team relative to category reviews. Oversee development of executive-level presentations that summarize analysis including historical category performance, strategic rationale underpinning assortment decisions and expected financial impact. Lead report out to all levels of management. Accountable for team s accuracy, thoroughness, thought process, timeliness and viability of recommendations.
20% Work with MVPs to develop and maintain a calendar of category reviews. Develop connections with cross-functional teams to further enhance analytical insight and viability of executing assortment changes. Provide program management of Portfolio Strategy. Deepen category knowledge through consumer insights.
10% Own SVP/MVP relationship for designated departments. Leadership roles in strategic projects. Ad hoc analysis and reporting.
