SR MANAGER, ANALYTICAL SCIENCES & TECHNOLOGY

 

Emergent BioSolutions is currently seeking a Sr Manager, Analytical Sciences & Technology. The successful candidate will possess a bachelors degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry or in another closely related scientific discipline with at least 10 years of relevant experience. Must have at least 5 years of supervisory experience and possess skills and knowledge of general immunological, bioanalytical, and chemical test methods. In addition, this individual will possess a strong work ethic and a commitment to excellence and innovation.

THE OPPORTUNITY

 

Reporting to the Director, Manufacturing Sciences & Technology, the Senior Manager, Analytical Sciences & Technology (AS&T) will play a critical role in the long-term success of the Winnipeg site. The incumbent will build a strong, results-driven team dedicating their focus to the Quality Control department, including the tech. transfer and validation of new assays into the site, troubleshooting non-conformances, and optimizing existing assays in the pursuit of operational excellence.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

            Communicate & translate Winnipeg site strategy into action plans, goals, and deliverables, and hold department accountable for completion.

            Oversee and manage the activities involved with transfer of test methods for new product candidates to the Quality Control teams at the Winnipeg site.

            Support drafting of project proposals and analytical tech. transfer plans for existing and/or potential clients.

            Build strong relationships with the Business Units to ensure alignment on project priorities and deliverables.

            Oversee the design, development, execution, and analysis of validation protocols for analytical, bioanalytical, microbial and compendial methods used for product analysis.

            Oversee assay verification, qualification and validation. This includes analyzing/interpreting data, investigating analytical/microbial problems and rectifying those problems.

            Lead assay optimization initiatives for existing test methods to reduce variability and improve robustness.

            Support QC and Manufacturing investigations from an analytical and microbial perspective in the event of product/process non-conformances.

            Coordinate assay monitoring and trending for test methods performed on product manufactured at commercial scale.

            Demonstrate strong organizational and technical writing skills.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

 

  • Bachelors Degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, or closely related scientific discipline with at least 10 years of relevant experience, Masters Degree with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or PhD with at least 5 years of relevant experience.
  • At least 5 years of prior supervisory experience required.
  • Must possess skills and knowledge of general immunological, bioanalytical, and chemical test methods such as ELISA, qPCR, IEF, Viral and Cell-based assays, SDS-PAGE, Western Blot, DNA, MLT, Bioburden testing, Endotoxin testing, HPLC with multiple modes of detection, CE, and IV and IR spectroscopy.
  • Advanced knowledge of cGMPs, safety, and data integrity.
  • Experience in executing phase appropriate method qualifications and validations.
  • Experience in assay method validation, equipment validation, and analytical investigation for biopharmaceutical products.  

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

            Citizenship/Permanent Resident or Valid Work Permit.

            Successful Completion of a Criminal Record Check.
