Sr. Data Operations Engineer I

Duties: Administer and maintain the security and integrity
of databases. Design database maintenance, upgrade and replication processes
and provide incident/problem management support. Develops processes, procedures
and defines metrics to review for capacity management. Resolve database
performance issues, database capacity issues and any distributed data issues.
Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for DB2, Couchbase, MySQL, Oracle and
MongoDB databases and take a lead role in the resolution of the most complex
incidents and problems. Work with the Information and Data Architects, Platform
Engineers, Database Designer and Modelers, Application Development Teams,
Application Support Teams and Business Process Owners to implement robust
SQL/NoSQL solutions based on business demand. Participate in project planning
to assess Capacity requirements and design the solution for optimal performance
based on projections. Researches new features and implementations for Staples
Environments. Determine risk of various configurations and options for database
administration and can communicate issues to development staff, managers and
team. Assist in development and deployment activity as per implementation
planning. Provide input to the development of business cases in enterprise-wide
database solutions. Ensure that the application, and any enhancements, interact
efficiently with the database. Develop and implement database performance
monitoring process and analyze monitoring data for performance optimization
opportunities and capacity planning. Plan for and execute any required database
upgrades and migration activity. Communicate database requirements to the
development team for the design and implementation of database-related code.
Establish and enforce practical Standards within the Platform. Design database
cloud solutions using platform as service and infrastructure as service.
Develop centralized monitoring solution using Prometheus and Grafana. Configure
end to end database provision using CICD pipeline Jenkins. Automate database
configuration and provision using python, puppet and ansible. Willingness to
provide off hour support and be part of the on-call rotation as required.


Requirements: Requires a Bachelors degree in
Computer Science or Information Technology or a directly related field plus six
(6) years of experience in data modeling, database management, database design,
development and performance tuning in DB2. Experience must include:

Six (6)
years in each of the following (experience may be gained concurrently):

+ Troubleshooting and resolvingdatabase issues or technical issues.

+ DB2 and NoSQL

+ Hands-on experience in AIX, Linux OperatingSystem, python, shell scripting and Virtualized environments.

+ Monitoring performance andrecommending improvements for operational efficiency;

+ Assisting in capacity planning,space management and data maintenance activities for database system;

+ Performing database recovery andbackup tasks on daily and weekly basis;

Five (5)
years in each of the following (experience may be gained concurrently):

+ Working with SQL;

+ Experience with data system design,architecture, database backup, recovery and monitoring;

+ Hands-on experience in usingconfiguration management tools, including Puppet, Chef, or Ansible;

+ Database monitoring, administration,upgrades, backup, and disaster recovery of DB2/Couchbase databases;

+ Ensuring integrity, availability andperformance of DB2, Mongodb and Couchbase database by providing technicalsupport and maintenance;

+ Oracle;

+ MySQL; and

(3) years in each of the following (experience may be gained concurrently):

+ Working with Couchbase and Mongodb.
