Job Description

This Automation Engineer position acts as a subject matter expert in developing automated systems for use in production and packaging environment. The candidate will collaborate with departmental and corporate leadership to determine existing automation capabilities and future opportunities, creating detailed project road maps for automation projects that support the site business objectives.

 

The qualified candidate shall have in-depth knowledge and experience in PLC and HMI programming, automated equipment design, and troubleshooting skill. Individual interact with cross-functional internal and external engineering resources to implement advanced automation processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Streamline the manufacturing process while maintaining product quality and adhering to FDA regulations and cGMP guidelines.
  • Administrate user access and system backups on all industrial equipment.
  • Identify and work with the internal engineering team and external engineering firms to design, develop and implement automated equipment and upgrades.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for automation equipment or processes.
  • Identify and support the continuous improvement and standardization opportunities for cost reduction.
  • Support maintenance team on troubleshooting and problem solving on existing equipment.
  • Provide informal guidance to junior staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, with a focus on automation, process control, electrical or mechanical preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years of hands-on experience in industrial controls and automation, especially on the design, implementation and sustaining automated systems for manufacturing.
  • Proven ability to evaluate manufacturing processes that could be automated and develop a strategy for application of new technology that adds high value to the business.
  • Must have demonstrated, technically sound, engineering background and proven successes in upgrading and designing automation of production systems for a manufacturing environment in a regulated industry.
  • Ability to develop process requirement specifications, collaborate with outside design firms and work with Operations personnel to establish efficient solution systems.
  • Strong programming and troubleshooting skills in PLC (Allen Bradley/Rockwell), HMI (PanelView, Wonderware InTouch), VFD, and servos (Schneider Elau PacDrive).
  • Experience in data acquisition, historian solutions and virtualization a plus.
  • Superb problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Familiar with FDA 21 CFR Part 11, cGMP guideline and GAMP5.
  • Proficient in MS Office and MS Project
