Senior Manager, Risk Management

**Description**

**Position Summary:**



Assist in leading the strategic development of the overall risk management program. Manage key components of the marketing and administration of the insurance program (cyber, property, cargo, casualty and executive)for Staples, Inc. and its affiliated companies. Manage the design, planning and execution of the overall risk management programs to reduce property and casualty insurance losses and expenses; and drive the execution and implementation of these programs throughout the organization. Assist in the development of Staples insurance and retention budgets for all legal entities. Co-manage key l relationships with insurers and underwriters, brokers and other third party vendors. Provide subject matter expertise to internal teams as it relates to the organizations contractual risk transfer program and philosophy.



**Responsibilities:**



+ Work with senior leadership to establish and quantify the organization's 'risk appetite'

+ Establish and maintain third party service provider relationships including carrier and broker relationships.

+ Evaluate exposures throughout the businesses and recommend / implement loss control and/ or insurance programs. Develop insurance programs to support new business initiatives.

+ Conduct analysis on the marketplace including but not limited to program structure, risk financing strategies, coverage enhancements and carrier security.

+ Understand and convey the companys risk profile to insurance carriers to achieve competitive pricing for necessary insurance coverage.

+ Organize pre-renewal strategy meetings with brokers.

+ Organize underwriting meetings to portray company in most favorable light to underwriters.

+ Collect underwriting info from various business units to prepare professional submissions to underwriters.

+ Monitor exposure-to-risk claims programs to ensure the proper and efficient oversight and handling of claims.

+ Work with LP personnel to coordinate loss control efforts and services from broker and other risk providers.

+ Work with Accounting, Actuaries and Brokers on loss forecasts and maximum possible loss scenarios.

+ Monitor the oversight of organizations Certificate of Insurance program.

+ Monitor the oversight and maintenance of the companys Risk Management Information System.

+ Review insurance terms and conditions in all third-party contracts, agreements, leases, etc.

+ Internal support as a subject matter expert spanning a wide variety of insurance and risk subjects

+ Key member of the M&A team, providing pre and post due diligence for risk management purposes.

+ Project management and initiative leadership and execution for risk management initiatives.

+ Develop and analyze metrics to measure and improve the performance of the Risk team.

+ Coach and mentor Risk Team with a focus on professional development and big-picture thinking



**Qualifications**

**Basic Qualifications:**



+ Bachelors degree required

+ 5 to 10 years of insurance experience

+ A minimum of 5 years corporate insurance or risk management experience



**Preferred Qualifications:**



+ Broad-based knowledge of commercial insurance products (casualty, crime, cyber, executive, property, etc.) and alternative risk financing tools

+ Contractual liability knowledge is required (insurance provisions; indemnification; subrogation)

+ Experience with claims handling across multiple coverage lines for programs carrying large deductibles and retentions

+ Solid judgment, strong analytical skills

+ Strong negotiation skills

+ Strong leadership and managerial skills

+ Ability to set priorities and manage expectations

+ Effective communication skills (written/verbal)

+ Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
