Job Description


Reporting to the Vice President Tax, North America, the Senior Director, Tax Operations has overall responsibility and accountability for management of the Companys Federal, State and Local tax provision and return processes and related matters; certain aspects of the return processes are out-sourced.  The Senior Director, Tax Operations therefore will manage both internal staff and interactions with the outsource service provider. 


The incumbent will provide tax expertise with respect to the impact of Federal, State and Local tax regulations and developments on the Companys current operations.  In addition, they will assist and participate in the development of the departments annual and long-term strategic plans (aligned with global objectives), including the modeling and analysis of scenario planning.  These responsibilities will be carried out with a focus on maximizing the Companys ability to garner tax savings while ensuring compliance with the Companys tax payment and reporting obligations.  The incumbent will interact regularly and routinely across the various functions of the tax department as well as with the commercial, business and other operations of the Company.


The incumbent must have a thorough knowledge of all areas of tax (Federal, State and Local, and International) and keep current with ever changing tax laws and regulations.  Central to this is considering and analyzing how such changes may impact the Companys tax position (including tax accounting implications), and making recommendations for the efficient management of the same.  The position requires the ability to manage numerous projects of equally weighted priority and to address business and commercial questions and concerns as needed.


With oversight of the in-house Tax Operations, the Senior Director, Tax Operations will manage and coordinate the Federal (including International), State and Local tax provision processes including the finalization and review of provision to return reconciliations and associated true-up entries together with the effective tax rate reconciliation.  The incumbent will work closely with finance, accounting and treasury functions (among others) as part of the quarterly and year-end close tasks.  The roles responsibilities also includes assurance of a tight control environment through compliance with the SOX framework.   Managing both employees and out-source services staff work, he incumbent will oversee the timely and accurate filing of all Federal (including International). State and Local tax returns together with all requisite payments.


The Senior Director, Tax Operations will participate actively in projects identifying, recommending and implementing opportunities to reduce the Companys Federal and State tax liabilities, the preparation of analysis and formal memoranda supporting recommendations to management, in addition to oversight and management which supports the integration of tax into business and commercial operations.  The proper execution of these tasks will require proactive and inclusive communications to ensure tax compliance and to enhance the Companys strategic tax position.


An important aspect of the role is fostering continuous improvement and implementing best practices by driving changes in processes and procedures as well as leveraging technology solutions to improve the efficiency and accuracy of deliverables.  This work is not limited to a profile that is solely within the tax functions, but rather one which both proactively and collaboratively interacts with adjacent functions in Finance and as appropriate with the business and commercial operations.


Bachelor's Degree (required), MST and/or CPA preferred.

Minimum 12 years of experience in all areas of US corporate income taxation.

Minimum 5-7 years of people management.

Big 4 and/or large corporate experience.

Familiar with tax technologies and middleware solutions
