Staples US Retail is assembling an internal creative team of strategic thinkers, collaborators and storytellers to help us continue to share our evolution to Staples Connect and define Staples stores as the working and learning destination for local communities. This nimble, collaboration-oriented team of designers, writers, creators, producers and project managers will work shoulder-to-shoulder with marketers, merchants, strategists, product owners and external creative teams to develop compelling content and build engaging store, digital and marketing experiences for our customers. **This role: Compelling and conceptual thinker and writer**



Reporting to the Associate Creative Director of Copy, the Senior Copywriter is responsible for creating innovative new ideas and writing compelling, original content and copy for a variety of digital, video and print-based assets. This position works very closely with the ACD, CD, project management team and art directors/ designers. The role also includes editing content and evaluating ideas written by other copywriters and contributors.



The ideal candidate will have deep experience in retail communications (including store experience, digital platforms, email and social) and understand fundamental marketing engagement and customer experience practices. Leveraging brand identity guidelines, the Senior Copywriter will help define and evolve brand tone of voice and style to align with key customer personas and business drivers.



Senior Copywriter duties require excellent listening skills, customer service skills, verbal communications, and the ability to translate agency briefs into breakthrough creative executions. This position is a significant resource as well when presenting creative work and rationale to clients. At times, this role may provide coaching, development, resource scheduling and support to other copywriters or freelance resources.



**Key Responsibilities**



+ Write creative, effective marketing copy according to project specifications/creative brief while collaborating with design as appropriate

+ Maintain single narrative voice, implementing consistency throughout content balancing supplier needs with company standards

+ Research clients, their competitors and the target audience to support creative strategy and inform the execution

+ Provide writing support for aligned client group(s), as well as supporting projects from other clients as demand and scheduling requires



+ Collaborate with design team as needed to meet specific project objectives

+ Produce original, clear and credible copy and be accountable for the final development of creative assets

+ Implement SEO enhancement in all web/digital content

+ Ensure accuracy, attention to detail and that the project overall meets or exceeds the writing objectives

+ Conceptualize new content for site, social and new digital platforms



+ Ensure messaging brand guidelines and directives are embraced and adhered to in all executions

+ Adhere to regulatory and compliance regulations

+ Execute writing requests with accuracy, producing zero errors in work (all client edits are implemented correctly, spell check was run, facts were confirmed)

+ Respond to all requests and communications in a timely and thorough manner

+ Work to improve the teams overall performance and embrace a collaborative approach



+ Support peers by reviewing work to ensure zero errors in work per above

+ Edit and proofread material as demand and scheduling requires

+ Support leadership in helping to build a unified team mindset



**Qualifications**

**Skills & Knowledge Requirements**



+ Demonstrate proficient expertise in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat

+ Proficiency in AP and/or Chicago Manual of Style



+ Understanding of writing applications in traditional and emerging channels

+ Ability to maintain a consistent voice and audience focus in writing

+ Ability to streamline verbose content to the focus on the main message in a concise, effective manner

+ Consistent quality control in work

+ Understanding of specific channels or vertical markets as required by job function



+ Demonstrated ability to adapt style of copy to various audiences, purposes or media

+ Competency presenting creative work



**Education & Experience Requirements**



+ Bachelors degree required, preferably in English, journalism, communications or related field

+ 6+ years External or in-house agency experience preferred

+ Minimum of 8 years of professional-level writing experience required

+ Portfolio required
