POSITION SUMMARY
- The Referral Coordinator works with both providers and patients as needed to process internal and external referrals in a timely manner while ensuring timely transmission and the start of services being requested. The Referral Coordinator will process out-of-network referrals and assist with in-network referrals, when necessary. This position must be executed in compliance with both facility and insurance requirements. The Referral Coordinator will be the liaison for patient resources and will work closely with clinical staff and/or the insurance company. The Referral Coordinator reports directly to the Patient Financial Services Director.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Licenses and Certifications Required
- Educational Requirements
  - Associates degree in healthcare or business administration and/or related coursework preferred.
  - High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Experience Requirements
  - Approximately one to two years related experience and/or training with health insurance referrals, eligibility, benefits, prior authorizations preferred.
  - Possesses understanding of coding (ICD-10 and CPT) and medical terminology.
  - Strong customer service focus, effective verbal and written communication skills, teamwork oriented, and able to take and follow through with delegated tasks and accountability.
- Special Skills or Training Requirements
  - Verbal and written communication and facilitation skills.
  - Ability to work independently and have initiative.
  - Ability to work cooperatively with a variety of individuals and groups including other community resource coordinators, health care providers, social services, community groups, and service providers.
  - Demonstrated networking leadership skills.
  - Problem solving, organizational, and time management skills.
  - Computer skills.
