Job Summary

A 2-3 year postdoctoral trainee position is available at the University of Kentucky, Lexington KY. The position is in the laboratory of Dr. Ann Stowe in the Center for Advanced Translational Stroke Science. Dr. Stowe is an established, NIH-funded translational researcher in neuroinflammation, with studies in both clinical and pre-clinical models. Lab methodologies include flow cytometry, histology, surgical techniques, cell culture, molecular techniques, and behavioral analyses. In addition, the Stroke Center includes several independent basic, translational, and clinical NIH-funded scientists who work in a collaborative environment that includes additional outstanding resources and techniques to support innovative research.

The successful candidate will benefit from an experienced mentor, and a stimulating and collaborative research environment. There are ample opportunities for scientific growth, career enhancement, national/international meetings, and development into an independent investigator in academia. The program will provide training in: (1) ischemic stroke bench to bedside; (2) career development; (3) grant and manuscript writing and; (4) learning how to mentor other students.

We seek a highly motivated, creative, and collaborative individual who would benefit from working with a mentor with expectations of presenting research at weekly laboratory meetings and national / international scientific conferences, writing up research for publication in scientific journals, and assisting in research grant application data collection and writing. Furthermore, it is expected that the successful candidate will manage the day-to-day aspects of research projects under the guidance of the P.I., as well as mentor other trainees (e.g. graduate and undergraduate students).

Requirements: PhD or MD/PhD in an area relevant to stroke or CNS immune-mediated diseases and/or neuroscience.
