Physical Requirements

Extended periods of sitting and standing; repetitive motion tasks; standing and/or walking with up to 10 lbs. This position may require traveling around the city and region for donor meetings.


Primarily Monday-Friday 8AM-5PM with occasional evenings and weekends per departmental needs.

Job Summary

UK HealthCare and the UK College of Medicine are embarking on an expansion of philanthropy to fund our growing patient care, research and education mission. We seek an accomplished philanthropy professional with at least four years’ experience in face-to-face fundraising to serve as one of our directors of philanthropy. In this role, the incumbent will be responsible for working with assigned physicians to engage grateful patients as well as engaging community benefactors as major giving prospects, seeking gifts of $100,000 or more.

The successful director will be someone who has experience and professional ethics and standards to represent the institution with top donors and UK medical faculty and administration, as well as someone who is goal-oriented and able to meet and surpass metrics in prospect visits, proposals submitted and dollars raised.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

The ability to work within a complex healthcare environment, navigating a matrix of relationships to engage donors in the mission of UK HealthCare and our various programs; outstanding written and oral communication skills; superior interpersonal skills with the demonstrated ability to work effectively and cooperatively with volunteers, administration, physicians, staff, and donors; self-motivation with enormous energy and a capacity for hard work in a goal-oriented environment; demonstrated ability to leverage effectively the time of physicians and others in contact with donors. This includes strong preparation and good judgement; maturity and unquestioned integrity, particularly as it relates to patient medical information; must comply with HIPPA privacy law; the ability to travel to meet with current and prospective donors of UK HealthCare; a commitment to the values and mission of the University of Kentucky and UK HelathCare.
