UWC has an outstanding opportunity for a Learning Technology Training and Support Specialist!

In support of UWCs belief that everyone deserves education to thrive in an ever-changing world, the Learning Technology Training and Support Specialist helps to ensure that UWCs education experiences are of high quality. This role provides user-support training, primarily to instructors, who use a variety of learning technologies in support of their courses. This position plays a key support role in diagnosing and resolving technical issues related to learning technology and web conferencing software and works closely with instructional design staff to support course development.

The ideal candidate has experience with a variety of Learning Technologies, including Canvas, Zoom (or other conferencing tools), virtual lab tools, enjoys problem-solving and team collaboration, can learn new technology tools quickly, communicate those tools' use to a broad range of experience levels, and advocates for a positive experience for instructors using various learning technologies.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Instructor Training and Development
  • Develop deliver, and facilitate training initiatives covering learning technologies and adult learning principles for instructional staff (faculty, course developers, instructors, and instructional assistants) and program staff in support of pedagogical and program goals
  • Author web content designed to help instructors integrate technology into their teaching. Web content currently includes text and image content using Canvas LMS, basic HTML/CSS, WordPress, as well as videos using Zoom, among other tools
  • Coordinate and maintain a robust training calendar to support instructors on a variety of technologies across a variety of learning modalities
  • Recruit and coordinate instructors and staff to provide peer training and development
  • Evaluate and assess trainings for effectiveness
  • Document frequently asked questions, issues, and trends from workshops, consultations, and end-user support
  • Update and customize training materials for specific instructor audiences
  • Suggest and co-design new platforms for instructor training, to make instructor training more efficient and effective
  • Build relationships with the Program Management team in order to maximize the reach and impact of instructor trainings, as well as strategizing on the best training approaches
  • Provide consultation and support via live software demos, email, phone, and in-person as needed

    Instructor Support
  • Respond to and resolve Tier 2 and 3 instructor support issues
  • Respond to helpdesk tickets and troubleshoot user support issues
  • Collaborate with other learning technology support providers across the institution to share information and best practices, and to help resolve known issues
  • Brainstorm and develop solutions to instructional design challenges
  • Collaborate with the AE team to deliver and deploy courses on Canvas, and using Zoom
  • Escalate issues to UWC IT / UW-IT and Learning Technologies / the Project Management Office as needed
  • Create guides for Tier 1 and 2 support and guide continuous improvement for Tier 1 and 2 support
  • Communicate regularly with support teams from vendor companies, advocating for instructor needs with both Instructure and LTI providers

    Learning Technology User Design and Advocacy
  • Work collaboratively to enhance UWCs web-based learning technologies by understanding and sharing the needs of our instructors, incorporating new technology, finding, piloting, and helping adopt more useful features and integrations
  • Integrate knowledge gained in workshops, support requests, and conversations to create end-to-end views of the instructor experience with our digital learning environment(s), and design improvements
  • Represent the instructor perspective on committees and within workgroups seeking to improve our digital learning environment and technology tools
  • Identify instructor trends and potential problem areas within learning technologies and recommend areas for change and improvement.
  • Coordinate, manage and track learning technology projects, develop and support educational technology initiatives
  • Collaborate with instructors and staff to measure the effectiveness of learning technologies
  • Monitor current trends in educational technology practices and pedagogy, advocate for the acquisition and use of new technologies that support and connect instructors with new ideas and approaches
  • Participate in local, regional, and national user groups learning technology innovations at UW Continuum College, especially including training and support offered to our instructors
  • Generate reports as needed

    REQUIRED
    Bachelors degree in Instructional Design, Education, Informatics, or any related field (equivalent experience can substitute), and 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified, to include:
  • Proven technology troubleshooting skills at tier 2 or highest non-engineering tier
  • Proven initiative to research and resolve complex problems
  • Knowledge of how online environments are used to teach
  • Experience with the Canvas learning management system, or other platforms (ex: Blackboard, Moodle)
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced, highly dynamic environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and organizational and customer service skills
  • Skilled in using presentation tools
  • Familiarity with ADA requirements, accessibility, and Universal Design principles
  • Ability to accomplish work through others, handing off issues or research to other staff when needed
  • Ability to interact effectively with staff, faculty, administrators, and students with a high level of customer service
  • Knowledge and experience with Zoom, or other web conferencing software

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

    DESIRED
  • Familiarity with the technology tools used to support teaching and learning at the University of Washington.
  • Experience working in a higher education institution, ideally with professional and continuing education or online learning.
  • Experience with Panopto (or other lecture capture tools)
  • Experience with Open edX
  • Experience with project management tools
  • Knowledge of Instructional Design principles
  • Knowledge of current Adult Learning theories
  • Experience with Wordpress or other CMS
