Nature of Responsibilities
The Graduate Assistant will serve as a member of the advising team for the Student Government Association. The Graduate Assistant will have the opportunity to work directly with students from diverse backgrounds and positions. This role will develop knowledge and skills in practicing shared governance, program planning, budget management, advising, group facilitation, and assessment, as well as development of alumni relations. The Graduate Assistant will gain insight into the operations of the University and assist students in collaborating with faculty, staff, and students. The Graduate Assistant will be supervised by the Assistant Director of Student Government within the Student Organizations and Activities office and will contribute in carrying out the mission of the Student Organizations and Activities, Student and Academic Life, and the University of Kentucky.

Key Duties Include
• Serve as graduate advisor for the Student Government Association (SGA).
• Serve as primary advisor to Senate. This includes advising a Senate Committee, working with senators on legislation development and execution, and expanding constituent outreach. The GA will work to ensure senators are appropriately engaging in shared governance and maintaining a positive relationship with University officials. Additionally, the Graduate Assistant will work with the Assistant Director in establishing learning outcomes and assessment instruments for Senate.
• Attend weekly Executive, Cabinet, Senate, and Senate Committee meetings as academic schedule permits.
• Assist the Assistant Director with conducting program evaluations and assessment.
• Communicate with peer institutions to benchmark programs and policies, as needed and assigned.
• Assist in researching and ensuring the maintenance of accurate historical records of SGA.
• Create training facilitations on leadership, advocacy, and personal and professional development for SGA members.
• Create training facilitations on areas of interest and relevance to Student Organizations and Activities students and staff.
• Serve as a team member within the Student Organizations and Activities with departmental programs, events, retreats, and initiatives as assigned by supervisor and as academic schedule permits.
• Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Graduate Assistantship Package
• $600 bi-weekly stipend plus full tuition Fall and Spring.
• Tuition, fees and health insurance are covered.
• Professional Development programs including Student Organizations and Activities professional development opportunities, Division of Student and Academic Life professional development series, and Human Resources development workshops.
• Professional Development funds from the SOA may be available for attendance at a professional conference, upon approval from supervisor and the Associate Director.

• Position requires a 20 hour work week. Evening and weekend hours are occasionally required.
• Professional office space with computer, printer, and other office equipment provided.
• Starting date – July 12th (negotiable)

Preferred graduate degree programs are Educational Policy Studies and Evaluation in Higher Education, Community & Leadership Development, Education Leadership, and Public Administration. Undergraduate involvement in student activities, event coordination, student government, and/or student organizations is preferred, but not required.
