Job Scope: The aerospace MRO (maintenance-repair-overhaul) industry analyst researches the world of aircraft MRO aftermarket services, capabilities, costs, and the impact of MRO industry activities worldwide.  Aviation Week Network’s focus is generally on Western-built, turbine-powered aircraft, and this position will specialize in both civil and military platforms.  Of particular focus is cost research for the range of aircraft services from engine maintenance to interior modification work to airframe maintenance their costs and average intervals between services.  Analysing and formally presenting well-researched information on aircraft repair trends, findings and major MRO organizations will be necessary for both international civil and military organizations.  Key is for the incumbent to have a data-driven analytical bent with great interpersonal skills to help deliver findings.     

The individual must be able to build personal relationships easily to create a network of sources for information gathering.  The incumbent must be skilled at accomplishing analytical research independently while working within cross-functional teams.  Exceptional interpersonal and confident communication skills are key to success.  Helping to develop and nurture new revenue streams through supporting marketing and sales efforts by providing analysis for content marketing, online products and special projects is vital.  The ability to create briefings/presentations using MS Office products and the ability to present findings virtually and in person at trade shows is important too.  The incumbent will provide key guidance in presenting findings in online products.  Previous aircraft maintenance, piloting or aircraft operation experience is valued, but is not necessarily required.  However, a passion for aircraft, aircraft maintenance and/or the aerospace market is important. 

 

Position Responsibilities:

This position focuses on information collection, analytical analysis of information and delivery of findings for the Aviation Week Intelligence Network (AWIN) team within the Intelligence & Data Services arm.  Leading efforts to improve the team’s analysis for costs, aviation aftermarket services and building and/or improving online product offerings is also important. Specific duties include:

  • Build personal relationships to create a network of sources for information gathering. 
  • Collect, record and present aircraft maintenance findings for products and services offered by Aviation Week Network.
  • Assess the MRO industry internationally/regionally.
  • Draw independent analytical conclusions about capabilities in terms of a geographical scope, aircraft types, and various MRO expense categories, i.e. components, airframe, engines, etc. 
  • Present findings at trade shows.
  • Work independently while interacting in cross-functional or matrixed teams.
  • Assist in developing new revenue streams by supporting marketing and sales efforts through creation of insightful analysis and published content.
  • Asses changes to cost structures for various aftermarket services.
  • Manage data integration efforts for the suite of related products including MRO Forecasts, Directories and other product services.
  • Produce or edit analytical reports.
  • Interface directly with clients, customers and other colleagues of the Aviation Week Network. Work as a team to meet business unit goals.
  • Attend trade shows to develop new information on aftermarket services and providers.  
  • Represent the organization at public events.
  • Assist in the production of new or updated products, mainly for online consumption.

 

Travel: Travel domestically & internationally to attend tradeshows and visit important organizations may be required, less than 10% annually. 

Location and Hours:

  • Aviation Week offices are in Washington D.C. 
  • Normal business hours on site, travel requires extended hours.
  • Potential to work remotely one-two days during the week, schedule permitting. 

Job Requirements

  • 4+ years related experience
  • Proficient with all Microsoft Office products with a specific emphasis on Excel.
  • Strong Data Analysis knowledge.
  • Solid communication skills with ability to present findings in a group setting.
  • Knowledge of aviation industry a plus.
