Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co. offers its employees comprehensive retirement and health & welfare benefit plans. The Benefits Administrator, working closely with the Senior Benefits Manager, is responsible for administering the company’s health & welfare benefits programs (medical, pharmacy, dental, vision, life, AD&D, short and long-term disability, EAP, and flexible spending accounts).  This position must be able to work effectively with the company’s HR representatives, its Plan Administrator, benefits consultants/actuaries, and carriers.

In addition, this position will keep abreast of market trends and best practices in corporate employee benefits, and requires a high level of confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and company policy. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Advises local HR administrators and employees of the benefit options, plan designs, and eligibility rules.
  • Coordinates benefit elections with the HR administrators and payroll processors.
  • Trains and assists local HR administrators on how to assist employees to use the benefits administration system.
  • Coordinates annual open enrollment systems and initiatives.
  • Provides benefit plan interpretation, guidance and counsel to employees.
  • Serves as a liaison with service providers and consultants in planning and benefit program interpretation.
  • Oversees the quality of outsourced activities serve as a liaison between local HR representatives, participants, and benefit plan providers.

  • All other duties and responsibilities assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Human Resources, or a related field required; Master’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in designing and administering large, self-funded and fully-insured corporate health & welfare plans (medical, prescription, dental, vision, and FSA), short and long term disability plans, life insurance, Health Savings Accounts, and 401(k) retirement plans required
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience with all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements impacting health & welfare plans (i.e., ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, Medicare, and ACA Healthcare, etc.) required
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and comfort in dealing with ambiguity
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including proficiency in MS Word and PowerPoint
    • Solid analytical and quantitative skills with a high proficiency in Excel
    • A customer service mindset, with solid judgment/ professionalism when handling sensitive issues
    • Personal initiative and drive
    • Proven ability to work independently, or collaboratively among a team
    • Able to manage multiple projects with demanding deadlines
    • Experience in working with HR benefit software.
    • Pursuant of CEBS (Certified Employee Benefits Specialist) designation preferred
    • Experience at employee benefits consulting firm or medical plan carrier preferred
    • Qualified and non-qualified retirement plan experience preferred
