Staples US Retail is assembling an internal creative team of strategic thinkers, collaborators and storytellers to help us continue to share our evolution to Staples Connect and define Staples stores as the working and learning destination for local communities. This nimble, collaboration-oriented team of designers, writers, creators, producers and project managers will work shoulder-to-shoulder with marketers, merchants, strategists, product owners and external creative teams to develop compelling content and build engaging store, digital and marketing experiences for our customers. **This role: Exceptionally fresh design leadership**



Reporting to the Creative Director, the ACD, Design is an experienced designer and working manager who has leadership and management responsibility for a team of designers and production designers in the development and delivery of multichannel materials and technically accurate, industry standard production ready artwork for a range of print and digital mediums to meet established business objectives and results.



The ACD, Design ensures the design solutions deliver on a consistent visual brand standard closely following brand guidelines. This role requires strong technical design skills, communication, and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to coach and develop staff while establishing and maintaining solid relationships within the creative team. The position requires a highly collaborative person who is comfortable both with conducting problem-solving processes and with sharing, as well as accepting feedback.



Responsible for the development and implementation of design solutions for campaigns ranging from very complex to simple, the ACD, Design must exhibit expert design skills in achieving the highest quality standards appropriate for all assigned projects and tasks. The ACD, Design will develop basic knowledge of internal business partners business challenges to execute design requests.

+ Work to improve the teams overall performance and embrace a collaborative approach

+ Mentor designers by offering support and counsel on various aspects of their role and support onboarding of new team members

+ Support leadership in helping to build a unified team mindset



+ Maintain quality check on materials created

+ Engage in professional development to continuously grow in profession and remain competitive with outside services



**Creative Responsibilities**



+ Collaborate with the ACD, Copy and take direction from the Head of Creative, Creative Director, ACD of Strategy as appropriate



+ Provide design direction to designers on internal Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 projects, as assigned

+ Provide design support for assigned internal business partner project(s)

+ Conceptualize, plan and design solutions per creative brief and/or project specifications on Tier 2 (design adaptation) projects and design and production on Tier 3 projects

+ Produce original designs based on limited direction

+ Recommend, research and develop imagery to support creative strategy and execution



+ Work with the production artists to produce the final creative assets ensuring accuracy, attention to detail, and that the project meets or exceeds the design objectives

+ Ensure brand guidelines and directives are embraced and adhered to in all executions

+ Respond to requests and communications in a timely and thorough manner

+ Maintain awareness of new technology and trends in design and printing techniques to ensure the best possible solution for our clients

+ Creatively seek out new products and maintain cutting edge industry knowledge

**Qualifications**

**Skills & Knowledge Requirements**



+ Expertise in design techniques, skills, tools and procedures for applicable media

+ Expert-level proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud software: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat

+ Understanding of key digital software, including but not limited to Sketch, InVision, etc.

+ Sound understanding of MS Office



+ Some HTML proficiency a plus



+ Understanding of design applications in multichannel marketing

+ Strong typographic skills in print and digital channels

+ Ability to project manage/traffic personal workload

+ Ability to write and speak effectively and clearly communicate with peers, leadership team and clients

+ Eager to share designs with team early in the process to gain alignment on execution strategy



+ Listens well and incorporates others viewpoints into the design process

+ Supports and demonstrates corporate brand knowledge

+ Is an ambassador for the In-House Agency objectives and point of view on corporate brand and its visual identity

+ Maintains high quality standards despite pressing deadlines and always strives to do work right the first time

+ Always meets deadlines under normal circumstances



+ Helps solve problems before they negatively impact the project, team or processes

+ Adapts well to changing priorities, deadlines and directions

+ Provides potential solutions when presenting challenges to leadership

+ Works with minimal direction and can be counted on for accuracy

+ Competency and experience with FTP applications, print file preparation, and printer proofing are also required



+ Pre-press/pre-flight software experience and web design experience helpful



**Education & Experience Requirements**



+ Bachelors degree required, preferably in graphic design or related field

+ 8+ years of professional-level experience required in creative/graphic design within an external or in-house agency

+ 5+ years leadership/management experience preferred

+ Expert-level proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud software: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop

+ Competency in Sketch, InVision



+ HTML, HTML5 expertise a plus

+ Portfolio required

+ Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign Certification a plus
