Job Summary

The Department of Integrated Strategic Communication in the College of Communication and Information at the University of Kentucky invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level with an anticipated start date of August 2021.

Qualifications/Responsibilities
Teaching Responsibilities for this nine-month appointment include topics primarily in corporate social responsibility, public relations, and social and digital media planning. A Ph.D. or terminal degree in an appropriate field is preferred, but candidates may be considered who are on track to defend their dissertation within the first semester of employment at UK. The earned doctorate is required by August 2021 for the successful candidate to hold the rank of assistant professor and hold the associated salary. If the selected candidate has not yet earned a doctoral degree, the individual will be hired at the rank of Instructor. A record of, or potential for, extramural funding is desirable.

This position typically carries a two-course per semester teaching load and emphasizes excellence in teaching, research, and publication credentials commensurate with departments at high research-intensive universities. As part of regular duties, the new faculty member would serve as an academic advisor to undergraduate and graduate students and would participate in the department’s and the college’s graduate programs governance and service. Regular-title ISC faculty are encouraged to propose and teach special-topics undergraduate and graduate courses that take advantage of personal interests and experiences in the field.

About the Department:
Our growing ISC department, with 12 full-time faculty members and about 600 majors and pre-majors, has been a leader in offering an integrated and strategic approach to advertising, sales promotion, public relations, direct response, and interactive or socially mediated communication.

About the College:
The College of Communication and Information is composed of two schools (The School of Journalism and Media, School of Information Science), two departments (Department of Communication, Department of Integrated Strategic Communication) and an interdisciplinary graduate program. Nearly 1,700 undergraduate majors and 350 graduate students are led by more than 80 full-time faculty, who also teach in the university’s core curriculum and serve students perusing minors and certificates in the College. The College also houses UK’s independent student newspaper, The Kentucky Kernel, and the defending national championship Intercollegiate Debate Team.

About the University:
Located in the vibrant city of Lexington, the University of Kentucky is a public, land-grant institution that plays a critical leadership role in promoting diversity, inclusion, economic development and human well-being. The campus is home to 30,545 students, 1,734 instructional faculty, 852 non-instructional faculty, and 13,940 full-time staff. The university is one of just eight in the country with a major academic health center and a full spectrum of academic colleges and professional schools on one contiguous campus. As such, UK is an incubator for multidisciplinary research. These collaborations allow researchers to address the rapidly changing needs of a global society.
