Job Summary

The Department of Landscape Architecture at the University of Kentucky invites applications for a 12-month tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant or associate professor. The successful candidate will bring a teaching and research agenda with an intellectual focus on geospatial analysis and data representation integrated into the landscape architectural design process at a range of scales. Complements to this focus area could include teaching and scholarship in digital design visualization, modeling, or communication strategies. The new faculty colleague will teach in the design studio sequence in landscape architecture along with theory/methods/applications courses available to landscape architecture students and other majors. Scholarship in this position could center on innovation in methods, novel applications of geospatial and other techniques, or environmental design issues whose investigation involves geospatial analysis. This position has an expected distribution of effort (DOE) of approximately 60% instruction, 30% research, and 10% service.

The Department seeks a colleague with professional practice experience who can demonstrate the potential for success in a land grant university environment through excellence in teaching, research, and service to the university, profession and public. Development of a documented record of scholarly productivity through peer-reviewed publication or creative work, along with external funding for research, is essential for promotion and tenure.

The accredited undergraduate landscape architecture program emphasizes creativity, technical competence, public participation, and environmental responsibility. The curriculum incorporates external experiences for students through internships, research experiences, and international study programs. Landscape Architecture has a tradition of community engagement and multiple studios incorporate varied service learning projects. Faculty research and service includes community design, geospatial analysis, design thinking, green infrastructure, nature play, and cultural landscapes.

The Department resides in the College of Agriculture, Food and Environment, which has complementary strengths and collaborative opportunities in environmental science, community development, biosystems engineering, horticulture, and other areas. The Arboretum, State Botanical Garden of Kentucky and many other off-campus college facilities enrich the departments teaching and learning environments.
