Job Summary | The Department of Animal and Food Sciences invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Food Sciences position, 12-month tenure track (approximately 70% research, 25% instruction and 5% service), which will support the research and instruction missions of the department in the Regular Title series. Primary responsibilities include developing an extramurally funded and nationally recognized research program with a focus on food chemistry, nutrition and health. The University of Kentucky’s Food Science program has a strong history of research productivity supported by nationally competitive grants from both the federal government and the food industry. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to fulfill the Food Science program’s commitment to preparing students via classroom and laboratory instruction. The successful candidate must also demonstrate the strong potential to contribute to the continued success and advancement of Food Science research. Participation with other faculty in fulfilling the mission of the department is essential. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate level food science courses and recruiting/advising undergraduate and graduate students. The area of Food Systems has been designated as a Target of Opportunity by the College of Agriculture, Food and Environment. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with the University of Kentucky’s Food Systems Innovation Center to provide applied research solutions and technical services to Kentucky’s food industry. Located in Lexington, KY. Skills / Knowledge / Abilities | Excellent oral and written English communication skills; demonstrated record of peer-reviewed scientific publications; enthusiasm for teaching and advising food science students; strong commitment to food science student recruitment and food science club activities; demonstrated record or potential for obtaining nationally competitive extramural grant funding. The ability to work in collaborative, interdisciplinary, and cross-functional environments with other research faculty and commercial producers, as well as public, private and governmental agencies is important. |
