Job Summary

The Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) Program within the Department of Health and Clinical Sciences, College of Health Sciences (CHS) invites applications for a tenure-track, 11-month, faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. (http://www.mc.uky.edu/mls/). Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in the MLS curriculum, occasional travel to the Center for Excellence in Rural Health Hazard campus, participation in program and curriculum development, engagement in research, and involvement in scholarly and service activities.

Qualified applicants must possess a doctoral degree in MLS or a related discipline, have national certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (Clinical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist), have graduated from a NAACLS-approved Medical Laboratory Science (Clinical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist) program, and possess clinical experience. Primary teaching emphasis will be in the area of Clinical Chemistry. Preference will be given to candidates with a PhD in Chemistry and work experience in Clinical Chemistry or Toxicology. Rank, tenure status, and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience.

About the MLS Program

The NAACLS accredited Medical Laboratory Science program began in 1933 and has evolved over the years producing exceptional graduates employed worldwide. Currently the 18-month program is offered on the Lexington campus, at the Center of Excellence in Rural Health in Hazard, KY, and virtually through online MLT to MLS tracks. The MLS program received a 10-year reaccreditation in 2018. The MLS program is located within the Department of Health and Clinical Sciences and is well-integrated and respected within the College of Health Sciences and the University. One of the strengths from the recent NAACLS site visit report states that The program has the support of the administration both financially and programmatically. It is clear the MLS program is an integral part of the strategic agenda of the institution.
