JOB SUMMARY

This job is in the Plant family (Department), which includes positions responsible for supervising or performing work metals processing and distribution work within the Reliance family of companies. Work includes specialized equipment operation and/or supporting functions and requires a practical knowledge of the nature and operations and the materials, facilities and methods employed by Reliance companies in metals processing and distribution.

Supervises all night shift employees to ensure orders are prepared and loaded for delivery with accuracy. Acts as the Plant Manager’s right hand person and ensures all assigned tasks are accomplished and, in the Plant Manager’s absence, addresses any issues that require immediate attention and resolution. Also as a back-up operator on equipment as needed.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Represents Reliance Metal Center in a professional and courteous manner
  • Maintains contact with Manager or office personnel to receive instructions
  • Assists with safety training for shop employees
  • Loads and unloads trucks and railcars, and supervises such tasks, in the warehouse
  • Supervises all employees and departments to ensure all task are complete (burning, sawing, etc.)
  • Responsible for maintaining cleanliness of work areas
  • Ensures trucks are loaded for next day deliveries
  • Inspects loads to be delivered for accuracy
  • Train employees on paperwork (bill of lading, making tags, filling orders, will calls, etc.)
  • Prepares Bills of Lading for driver’s deliveries
  • Completes receiving duties (back-up)
  • Pulls materials to fill sheet and bar stock orders
  • Generates tags for filled orders
  • Operates saws, shears, iron workers, coil line and punches
  • Organizes work load for coil line and shipping
  • Builds skids and pallets
  • Aids in burning operations
  • Puts stock materials in proper locations
  • Orders lumber for skids, pallets, and boxes
  • Orders supplies for shop use
  • Is the safety trainer for shop employees
  • Does minor building maintenance
  • Responsible for adhering to/ensuring compliance with applicable safety and quality standards.

Requirements

REQUIRED & PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

·         3+ years of relevant warehousing, material handling, and/or machining experience required.

·         High School diploma/GED preferred.

·         Ability to show adequate manual dexterity, finger dexterity, arm-hand steadiness, and multi-limb coordination required.

·         Ability to read and comprehend written instructions as applied to work situations required.

·         Basic measurement skills, including taking, converting, and/or using measurements of length, width, height, and weight to perform basic math computations correctly required.

·         Basic arithmetic skills to calculate and convert decimals and fractions required.

·         Basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows software required.

·         Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively required.

·         Ability to make sound decisions based on a combination of factors including knowledge, experience, and judgment required.

·         Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and customers required.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

Heavy work - Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
